Hull KR v Widnes Vikings

New Craven Park

Sun 2 April 2000 3:00pm

This will form the first real test of the Hulme/Foran partnership. Wins against easy opposition with all the optimism of a new era are all well and good, but the confidence must be carried forward and wins against sides like Hull KR are the cornerstones of a succesful campaign.
Mark Hewitt is enjoying himself back on Humberside and will be eager to impress against his old club. With Taewa and Wray forming an awesome left threequarter partnership, the Widnes defence will have to match them man for man.
Hull KR are not great scorers, currently averaging 3.41 tries per match. Widnes average one full try more than them, so there is certainly scope for a surprise away win. The reknowned HKR defence is only marginally better than Widnes's. They have conceded 26 NFP tries to our 27. As far as fair play is concerned, Hull KR are the best in the league. The Vikings have let discipline slip of late as they have become more and more frustrated.
With the threat of Hewitt's boot looming over every penalty decision, Widnes will do well not to let the Robins get to them.
